The goal of this surgery is meant to remove tissue to contour the breast to be smaller and firmer.
Eligibility
In most cases, the surgery is performed on adult women whose breasts are fully developed. However, in many cases it can be performed earlier if the size of the breast cause discomfort interferes with the ability to perform certain functions.
Risks
The complications include: bleeding, infection and reaction to anesthesia. In addition small soars may develop around the nipple area after the surgery. Some patients may experience the loss of feeling in their nipples or breasts.

Is the surgery painful?
The pain associate with this procedure is moderate but can be controlled with oral medication.
How should I prepare for the surgery?
If you are smoker, you will be asked to refrain from smoking 2-3 weeks prior to your surgery. You will also be asked to eliminate the intake of aspirins. You should arrange to have someone to be with you during, before and after your surgery. You should also arrange to have someone care for you for the first 24 hours after the surgery. Your surgeon will provide additional instructions prior to your surgery.
How will I initially look and feel?
You will notice that you will feel less sensation in the nipple area. However, this feeling is temporary and normal. The stitches will be removed within 5-10 days after the surgery. The incisions will initially be red or pink in color and they will remain the same for several months after the surgery. Patients will continue to experiment periodic discomfort during the healing process, but this is a normal.
When will I be able to continue my normal activities?
It is recommended that after the surgery the patient does not engage in strenuous activity or to lift any heavy objects for a period of 15 days. It is possible to resume normal work activities with 6-8 days including some form of light exercise. Sexual activity should be avoided for at least one week. Patients should immediately inform their doctor of any severe pain.
How long will the results of the surgery last?
The loss or gain of weight and pregnancy can cause for a patient's breast size to change. In addition, gravity and aging effects can alter the size and dimension of the breast. After a period of several years you may elect to have breast lift to restore the dimension and volume of the patient's breast.
