Seven Months of Age

Should - Sit without support. Feed self a cracker. Blow raspberries. 

Could - Bear some weight on legs. Object is you remove objects. Pass toys from hand to hand. Pick up and grasp small objects in fist. Turn in the direction of voice. Babble. Play peekaboo. Stand holding onto someone. 

May - Pull up to standing position from sitting. Get into sitting position from stomach. Clap hands. Pick up tiny objects with any part of thumb and finger. Walk holding onto furniture. Crawl. Say mama and dada at will. 

Eight Months of Age

Should - Bear some weight on legs. Feed self a cracker. Pass an object from hand to hand. Turn to voice. 

Could - Stand holding onto something or someone. Object is toy is removed. Play peekaboo. Get into sitting position from stomach. 

May - Pull up to standing position from sitting. Say mama and dada incessantly. Play patty cake or wave. Walk holding onto furniture. Stand alone for brief periods. Understand and ignore No. 

(Crawling can start with baby dragging themselves. Then, they graduate to hands and knees crawling. The advanced phase is on hands and feet, which is the last step prior to walking. While some babies may crawl at 6 months, more typically this will occur in the 7 1/2 to 9 month time frame.)

Babies who are confined to cribs and strollers may not learn to crawl and will jump right into walking. Babies should to able to sit erect before crawling. 

Nine Months of Age

Should - Work to get an out of reach object. Search for a dropped object.

Could - Pull up to standing position from sitting position. Get into sitting position from stomach. Strenuously object if toy is removed. Stand holding onto something. Say mama and dada. Play peekaboo.

May - Play patty cake, walk holding onto furniture, understand and disregard the word "no". Roll a ball back to you, drink from a cup independently, stand alone momentarily, and stand alone well. Respond to certain simple instructions. 

Ten Months of Age

Should - Stand holding to something. Go from sitting to standing position. Say mama and dada, and play peekaboo. 

Could - Get in sitting position from stomach. Play patty cake. Pick up tiny object with any part of thumb and finger. Walk holding onto furniture. Stand alone momentarily. Say dada and mama at direct the word at the right person. 

May - Roll ball back to you. Drink from a cup independently. Stand alone well. Talk gibberish. May walk.

Eleven Months of Age

Should - Get into sitting position from stomach. Understand the word "no". 

Could - Play patty-cake or wave good-bye. Walk holding onto furniture. 

May - Stand alone momentarily. Say dada and mama discriminately. Say one word other mama and dada. If advanced, stand alone well, talk gibberash, say three or more words other than mama and dada. Respond to a one-step command without gestures. Walk well.

Twelfth Months of Age

Should - Walk holding onto furniture. 

Could - Play patty cake or wave bye-bye. Drink from cup independently (many can not do this until 16 1/2 months). Stand alone momentarily. 

May - Indicate what they want other than by crying. Play ball by rolling ball back to you. (Most will not do this until 16 months). Stand alone well. Walk well. 3 of 4 babies do not walk well until 13 1/2 months.
