It's true that old age brings with it health-related problems. Your capacity to work decreases, your resistance towards illnesses goes down, your will power too zooms down. In fact, life on a whole slows down. Your body starts asking for a lot of time and attention and you feel that all your hard-earned savings are going in medicines and bills. So what do you do? Though it is true that you cannot keep diseases at bay, you sure can work towards a healthier tomorrow. This is how:
Exercise: The best way to stay fit is to exercise. Keep those limbs moving else they will rust. Old age brings with it a plethora of ailments such as arthritis, back pain, aching feet and a sensitive digestive system which may make it difficult for you to follow a strenuous physical routine. But remember all that you need to do is to spend time proportionate to your physical capacity. May be do some light exercises or go for a walk. This is good enough to keep your body well oiled.
Eat a balanced diet: You may need to eat smaller meals at frequent intervals. This is fine as long as you are careful to ensure that the meals are well balanced. Remember to drink lots of milk that will give you all the calcium to keep ailments such as osteoporosis at bay.
Turn a veggie: Well you had better give up all that butter chicken and tikkas if you haven't already! Your system sure cannot tolerate it now. Vegetarian stuff is healthy and easy to digest. Similarly, it would be advisable to give up smoking and drinking.
Fight back: You may not feel as healthy and energetic as you did 10 years ago, but that's no reason for you to be in low spirits. Accept this as a natural part of ageing and take things in your stride.
The key to leading a happy retired life lies in accepting reality gracefully, rather than fighting it. Keep your laughter ringing and your voice singing and you will be able to jump over all hurdles easily.
