Eat Balanced Pregnancy Diet for Better Health and Growth of Your Baby

Diet is very important during pregnancy because an irregular diet may affect both the mom and the baby. A balanced and healthy diet of a pregnant woman is very important because the food which is eaten will affect the health of the baby also.

A pregnant woman can eat different varieties of food as much as possible but eating too much food will lead to weight gain and it is very harmful for both mom and the fetus.

First three months of the pregnancy is very important because the organs and nervous system of the baby will form in this stage, so a pregnant woman should take food rich in nutrition, vitamins and other minerals which helps in the baby's growth during this stage.

The baby grows very fast in the last three months so it is important to eat nutritious food during this period because a nutritious diet can increase the weight of baby after birth.   

A diet of about 2,200 to 2,800 calories is required for normal delivery. Foods rich in iron, folic acid and calcium are recommended regularly by the doctor for all pregnant women. The diet of pregnant women should consist of fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, cereals, spices and dairy products such as milk, ghee and butter.

It is better to avoid the foods in containers, oily food, spicy food, coffee, sweets, chocolates, biscuits and cakes during pregnancy because these foods will increase the amount of salt in the body of women and in baby.

The types of food depends upon the weight of the pregnant women in the starting stage of pregnancy but during the first trimester stage it is better to have normal food and during the second stage of trimester she should eat food rich in vitamins, minerals and nutrition because the tissues of fetus will starts to develop in this stage. In the third stage of trimester she should eat more food because a small body starts to grow inside her stomach at this stage.

Milk is rich in vitamins and calcium so it should be taken regularly and if you don’t like milk it is better to have milk product such as paneer or curd daily. The intelligence and the mental activity of the child depends upon the diet of the mom during her pregnancy, so it is important to eat healthy during pregnancy.

Most of the women take lot of ghee in their food and this will can cause weight gain, so it is better to have food which stays longer in stomach but it should not increase the weight of body.

Most of the doctors recommend women to take food rich in folic acid before and during pregnancy, because it helps to the fetus develop. The pregnant women will feel always hungry because of the growth of baby in them which can be minimized by adding more protien to the diet.
