Date Added: May 05, 2008 10:21:46 PM

When one steps on the scale and realizes that they are much heavier than they want to be, the first thing they will do is start eating less. Maybe you skip a meal, or eat only a tiny portion to try and lose weight. This is a common misconception, eating less frequently makes it tougher for you to lose weight.

When scientists look at overweight people compared to thin people, they have seen that the number of calories contained in the diet is similar. The things that make the biggest difference in peoples diet and weight loss is the amount of complex carbohydrates and fat that they eat. Those two things alone are major factors which will hold someone back from losing weight. Exercise

Weight loss takes a long term commitment and plan, and just like you will not get fat overnight from eating one cookie, you will not lose weight overnight either. You will need to establish an eating plan as well as an exercise routine if you are serious about losing weight. It seems every day a new fad diet pill or patch becomes available, and yes many of them do work, but there is no one magic pill that does it all. There are many diet supplements which do there job, and do them well, but there job is to HELP yo lose weight, not to do it for you. Combined with eating right and exercise, diet supplements can be very effective.

One of the biggest reasons for people to lose weight is the health risk that is involved with being extremely heavy. One of the biggest myth’s in diet and weight loss is that people get heavy simply by eating to many calories. Calories are indeed one factor, but in the grand scheme of your diet they are not the be all and end all. One of the biggest reasons American’s are heavy is because as our society changed from a working one, in which the majority of people were doing manual labor, to carrying a much more sedentary daily pace. Another key component to the American obesity issue is the fat content of our food. Those who diet and do not exercise, over time may still gain weight, because of the fact that they are not doing anything to burn those fat calories and lose the extra weight.

Exercise will boost your metabolism, and keep your body burning those fat cells. Choose an exercise routine that you feel you can maintain and do comfortably for the long term. Remember, weight loss is a long term goal, and exercise is one of the most key components.
