Find Free edu and gov Links
Date Added: September 17, 2007 05:06:51 PM

If you’re interested in getting your website indexed quickly, the first step is getting links from strong websites. If you do, you will get the added benefit of moving higher in search engine results. But where do you get these links?

There are many highly ranked web directories that are great options and many pursue this route. Premium quality directories will charge a review fee and if your website meets quality standards will be listed in the directory. Google has stated in the past that having your website listed in quality directories is beneficial to your site.

Another popular trend in search engine optimization is the .edu or .gov link. Many webmasters have a misperception of the value of these links. It seems webmasters are frantic to get links from these sites because they feel they are valued higher than a .com link for example.

Matt Cutts has clearly stated here that .edu and .gov links (or any extension for that matter) have no special value in and of themselves. However they do tend to be strong links because they are typically from trusted domains that have many links to them which give them strong PR.

I have seen webmasters clamoring over the opportunity to purchase .edu or .gov backlinks with only a PR0 at high prices purely because of the .edu or .gov extension. The truth is they are getting links with no more value than a PR0 .com extension. Plus, when you get links in that manner you run the risk of being punished by Google for paid links.

If you are looking for .edu or .gov links, there are easier and FREE ways to find them when you’re willing to put in just a little time.

Do a Google search using the following search entry.

site:.edu inurl:blog “comment” -”you must be logged in” -”posting closed” -”comment closed” “keyword”

Where the word keyword appears, just type in the relevant keyword for your website and you will see numerous blogs with those .edu extensions appear. Substitute .gov for the .edu and you will find the sites with .gov extensions.

By no means do I think you should spam these blog sites with irrelevant comments. I am merely pointing out an effective way to find link opportunities. If you do post comments on the blogs you find, they should be on topic and relevant comments with your url entered only where it allows.

If you are searching for linking opportunities just remember that .edu and .gov carry no extra value in the extension themselves. These links should be evaluated just like a .com extension. There are quality premium directories that can provide link opportunities with more value in most cases.
