Why do we always crave for eternal youth? Why can't we accept retirement as a part of life and take it in our stride? Follow these pointers to help you come to terms with this new phase in your life:
Finding a new mission
Retirement does not mean the end of the world, in fact it should usher in a new era in your life. It should be seen as an opportunity to spread your wings, discover new horizons and do all the activities that you always wanted to but never had the time for. Find a new mission a new goal in life. Seek out all those childhood dreams and desires because now is the time to fulfill them.
Accept it
Now that it has happened you just have to accept it. Old age is something that you cannot avoid so try to keep yourself as fit as you can, go for a walk everyday, eat a balanced diet and be cheerful. Added to that is the fact that you have just retired from active life. Don't take retirement as a punishment, it is important that you accept its presence in your life and accept it with a welcome smile. After all, you have not retired from life.
Let go
Retirement also means letting go of that power, authority and control that you wielded when you were at the head of affairs. Now it is time you let your kids take over and shoulder the responsibilities that you have carried out up till now. Letting go of this power is surely going to be tough but remember that you can do it.
Nurture your mind, body and soul
Your mind, body and soul are interdependent so you need to nurturethem continuously. To keep your body running exercise constantly but moderately, eat less but a healthy diet and get rid of bad habits such as smoking. To keep your mind alive develop hobbies, join some community or organization, get occupied in some activity or simply discover your passion for seeing new places. Revive your old friendships and think positive. To keep your spirits up do a good deed, speak a good word about someone and smile often. You could join some religious organization or do some charity work. Whatever you do just remember that you need to keep a positive outlook towards life and not let it slip by you.
So are you ready to deal with life after retirement with a new zeal, a fresh approach and a revived spirit?
