How To Succeed When Taking A Driving Test
Date Added: November 14, 2007 05:56:54 AM

Any person who holds a foreign drivers license or has never been licensed in any state will need to pass a driving test in order to legally drive in the United States, unless that person holds a globally valid international drivers license. If you are in the position of needing to take the driving test, give yourself the best chance of becoming a motoring individual by following these guidelines.
Understand the task before you. There are generally two sections to a driving test. The first is the written exam that is used to test the person’s knowledge of basic laws for driving. The second is the driving portion of the test where you are required to demonstrate your proficiency behind the wheel.
Study the state provided study guide for driving that is provided for your driver license test.  This manual will explain the laws and regulations for driving safely in your state. These manuals are available for free and should be studied prior to hitting the road.
Regardless of a person’s age the basic class C driving exam is the same for all drivers. Make sure to spend a few days reviewing the information until you are comfortable with it. It contains many pictures and is written in an easy to understand format to ease the learning process.
Though you are able to take retake the test as many times as necessary, it is best to prepare and pass the test as soon as possible. Passing sooner rather than later will build your confidence, so keep that in mind as your prepare for the test.
There is an urban legend that says the Department of Motor Vehicles wants you to fail. There have been several jokes about this and the DMV that are simply not true. The testers may look intimidating, but they would like you to pass your driving test.
Examiners can be pleasant individuals just like anyone else if you come across as someone who cares and has taken the time to prepare. However it is their job to prevent unskilled motorists from creating a threat to the driving community.
So understand that the more knowledge you have at your disposal the more prepared and comfortable and prepared you will be. If possible you should find out the course you are going to be tested over. These tests can be given on the street or over a closed course.
If you are tested on a closed course, you will experience simulated conditions representing real scenarios that could happen on the road. If you are tested on the open road, you will encounter real traffic and demonstrate basic driving maneuvers such as right and left turns, stopping at intersections, traffic lights, three point turns, lane changes and backing up in a straight line.
When you are learning to drive take the opportunity to practice as much as you can. Practice will make you a more comfortable and knowledgeable driver when you do get on the road.
Unlike adults who are learning to drive, teenage student drivers often have additional requirements for behind the wheel training. Which consists of a number of hours with some of those being spent driving at night. Upon completion of the additional testing requirements they are allowed to take their test. The rule is to make sure that younger drivers have the additional practice and experience to safely take to the road.
Even adults you have never driven prior are required to take a number of training hours behind the wheel before taking the test. Just like teenage drivers, adults who have never driven should take advantage of this time to get as much practice as possible and become comfortable behind the wheel.
When it comes to the driving portion, just remember not to panic. It will consist of driving in regular street traffic, perhaps on a closed course and in some cases it may involve freeway driving. Take your time prior to the test to become comfortable with the written portion of the test and gain as much valuable driving experience as possible. After properly preparing, you will be ready for whatever comes on the day of the test.
It is a good idea to drive the same car for the test that you have been practicing in up to that point. You are more familiar with it and your confidence along with your chances of passing on your first try will increase.
During the driving portion of your test the examiner will take note of how you obey the rules of the road. They know the independence your driver’s license will bring you, but have to weigh that against the need to keep the driving community safe. They need to make sure you have practiced enough and are ready to safely navigate the roads. If you have properly prepared, you will have no problems passing the test.
If you should happen to fail on your first attempt, don’t take it too hard. The examiner is just letting you know that you need to practice and prepare a little more. Take the time to get some more time on the road and reviewing the manual.
Once you do pass the test, nobody is going to care or ask how many attempts it took. What they want to know is that you are not a threat to them when you are on the road.
