There are various types of data entry jobs available -- simple data entry, typing small advertisements, processing of different types of information etc. It may also involve typing letters, reports or other materials.
There are many companies on the internet that offer online typing/ data entry jobs. But you should be careful as many of these opportunities are scams. Most of the jobs include typing small ads and distributing them to various free classified websites. Some of these jobs are legitimate but you get paid only when somebody purchases something from your ads. So unless you are a marketing expert, it is very difficult to earn good money from these jobs.
There are other types of data entry jobs available which are more professional in nature. These include proofreading jobs, typing data into forms, medical and other billing jobs etc. These jobs are perfectly legitimate but the competition for these jobs is too high.
Many data entry jobs are advertised regularly in the various free classified sites. Most of these are scams. These companies generally ask for a fee towards registration and training. Always avoid these types of jobs. These are all scams. A legitimate online typing company will always provide full information about its address, phone number and contact person. They never ask for any money for registration or training.
To avoid scams, the following tips may be followed:
(a) Don't go for jobs which are advertised in various free classified sites. They are usually scams. You can look for jobs at Craigslist or other reputed sites.
(b) If a company has only a P.O. Box no. instead of a full address or uses a free e mail service (such as yahoo or hotmail), avoid that company.
(c) If the company asks for any money for training or for any other reason, avoid it.
So before joining an online typing company always do some research about the company. Contact them over phone and obtain all the information you need. Join the company only when you are fully satisfied.
