It is a great way to start your online business. In this business you are not required to worry about creating your product, building your website, keeping inventory, shipping the goods to your customers etc. You are only concerned about driving traffic to your affiliate link. You are paid a commission for every sale or lead.
The following are the different steps involved to start an affiliate marketing business:
(a) Join an affiliate program: There are hundreds of affiliate programs available online. Before joining a program, do some research about the program and the products which are being offered. Clickbank and Commission Junction are two of the most popular affiliate programs. They offer many different products which you can promote.
(b) Build a website: Though you can promote affiliate products (particularly from Clickbank) without having your own website, it is always preferred to have your own site. Having your own site helps to market your products better. The website design and content should be attractive to your visitors.
(c) Drive traffic: This is the most important step. You need good quality targeted traffic to visit your website. The more the traffic, the more sales you will have. The following are the different methods by which you can start building traffic to your site:
(1) Pay Per Click (PPC):
a. PPC advertising such as Google Adwords or Yahoo Search Marketing is a good way to get good quality targeted traffic to your site. It involves bidding for top rankings for various keywords.
(2) Marketing through Articles:
a. The advantage of article marketing is that it is completely free. You write small articles (300 -- 400 words) on various topics related to your product or service. There is a 'resource box' or 'bio box' at the end of each article, which contains a link to your site.
b. These articles are then submitted to various article directories on the net. When people read these articles, they may visit your site through the link at the end. In this way you can get good quality visitors to your site.
(3) Forum marketing:
a. It involves posting messages on various forums related to your niche. Your signature should contain a link to your site. People will visit your site through this link. This method is also completely free.
