Making your home a baby proof home
Date Added: June 20, 2008 05:17:32 AM

It doesn’t matter how many toys and books your baby has, they will prefer the things they shouldn’t have! That is why, when your baby does become mobile, you need to make sure your home is a safe one.
Safety equipment for the home is widely available and fairly cheap, but you first need to know what it is you need. With a little planning and a lot of common sense, you can have your home baby safe in no time.
For starters, you need to look at how you organize the things in your home. For instance, where do you keep the coffee cups when you have just made a drink? Are they far enough out of reach for inquisitive hands? Also, where do you store your household cleaning products and medicines? Are they in a locked cupboard or someplace out of reach?
Remember that you should take care that your baby can’t get hold of small objects such as pen lids, lighters and other such objects. Small objects can be just as dangerous, if not more so, than plug sockets and electrical items.
When your baby starts to crawl you need to get a safety gate or two. Safety gates can be easily fitted in doorways, at the top or bottom of stairs, or any other place where your baby can get through. There are a massive number of safety gates available to buy. They range from wooden ones, extendable ones, and fabric ones that roll out along with many others. Your price range and the size of the opening will determine which you buy.
A fire guard is also a must buy piece of safety equipment. A good fire guard is one that fits across the fireplace in your home. Whether you have a coal fire, a gas fire or an electrical fire; you certainly need a fire guard.
Covers for the electrical outlets in your home are a must buy! Babies are fascinated by plug sockets, so take away the temptation and cover them up! You can easily put the covers on and take them off when you need the plug sockets.
To prevent your baby hurting themselves on sharp corners that may be on tables or fireplaces, use specially padded corner guards.
