Date Added: December 12, 2007 03:41:09 AM

So you're thinking that it sounds too easy, too simple, but the truth is that releasing a well written, targeted and timely press release can be an extremely effective form of marketing.
For the press release to be effective it needs to be well-written and high quality while properly targeting your audience of media members. A well done and well executed press release could have your business on its way to higher sales and profits. By executing it properly there is the potential for your phones to start ringing off the wall.
Now that you know what to do there is that hurdle of how to do it? How are you going to write a press release that will grab the attention of the media members that will read it? Here are a few suggestions to make your release a success.
  • Every story has an angle so make sure to pick one that is newsworthy. Don’t hype your service or product. This is a press release and not a piece of advertising. What the media world wants is a story that has a newsworthy angle. Write a story that provides them with what they want to know. That is the basic who, what, when, where and how. You may try to give the some moving testimonials to bring out emotions. Before you send it you should ask yourself it is something you would expect to see in the news.
  • Your title and introduction for the press article will make or break it so it is important to grab their attention early. If you don’t start out with the intention to real them in quickly you will probably lose your audience. So hit your audience hard right out of the gate is not how most people write, but it is what works for press releases. After you hit them hard support what you said with the facts.
  • Don’t fill it with fluff. Keep your press release short and to the point. The average benchmark is under 500 words and no longer than 2 pages.
  • Who is your audience? Your client will not be reading your press release. A journalist will. Journalists do not want to be sold a story so write factually with a spin towards information. You’re providing the media with a story that is interesting and newsworthy that they can take to their audience and share.
When your press release is finished make sure that you include the complete contact information including website address, email, contact name, address, phone number and company name. You need to provide several ways for the reporter to contact someone knowledgeable with any questions that they may have.
Press releases have been used by companies time after time and have helped companies to succeed. It can be powerful when properly executed. Sometimes once is all it takes.
