Our homes ought to be the safest place for us to live, thus we need to make sure that it is free from hazards. One of the dangers that we must be concerned of is fire. The kitchen is one area that is susceptible to fire, it could be dangerous if you don’t take proper security measures. Here are some guides to avoid unnecessary fire.

Keep your kitchen as clean as possible.

It is important that your stove top and your oven area are clean as it is one great way of preventing a fire to start. It is because grease and other food crumbs that build up over time can cause a fire. If your oven has self-cleaning features, you may want to use it if needed. If it doesn’t have one, a good monthly swab on your oven and stove surface would be great.

However, when you are going to use your oven’s self-cleaning feature; bear in mind that this could possibly lead to another fire problem. To prevent such things to happen, clean out all the big chunks of food before you are going to use the self cleaning feature. By doing so, you can avoid heating those big food particles to the extent that it may roast up and eventually cause a fire.

Do not leave hot oil on the pan unwatched

Be careful not to leave your pan on your range top with cooking oil unattended. When you need to leave from the oven area for some reason, stop any on going cooking especially when you are heating oil. It would only take a minute to heat up oil so it is quite dangerous to leave it unattended as it could quickly boil out and catch fire.

In case a small fire develops into your cooking pan, immediately cover your pan with a lid and turn off your burner. If you can’t find a lid near you, try to find baking soda and sprinkle it into the pan.

Turn your pan handle inward

If you are cooking, remember to turn the handle of your pan or pot toward the inside. Do not let the handle be set in an open area wherein your little ones can easily grab the handle. Just imagine how terrible it would for your kid to bump or grab the hot pot of water or boiling oil causing it to spill out all over them.

Dress properly when cooking

Always wear tight fitting clothing while you are cooking. Be concerned about loose clothing that might catch fire while you are working close to heat sources.
