Nearly one dozen such stores have recently opened or will open soon, including Bed, Bath & Beyond, Today's Man, Filene's Basement, three Barnes & Noble Superstores, Toys 'r' Us, Bradlee's, HMV Records, Comp USA, Virgin Records, and the world's largest KMart.
In contrast to the superstores, the city's famous weekend flea markets continue to offer an exciting, only-in-New-York shopping experience with outstanding bargains. Weekend flea markets on 25th Street and Sixth Avenue, Columbus Avenue at 77th Street, Sunday only, and Broadway and Grand Streets in SoHo, daily, have become city institutions.
World-class shopping never goes out of style in New York. From the young, hip stores lining lower Broadway, Houston and Canal Streets to the trendy chic of Columbus and the dripping-with-diamonds elegance of Fifth and Madison Avenues, there's a shopping street for every style and pocketbook.
No visit would be complete without a stop at saks Fifth Avenue, bloomingdale's, Macy's, Barneys New York, the Warner Brothers Studio store and the south street seaport marketplace. Adding to the excitement, both the Walt Disney Company and Nike, inc. are expected to open retail stores in Manhattan in the near future.
