Date Added: May 01, 2008 01:56:57 AM

Fishing lures have come a long way since the first lure was created. Fishing lures are getting developed and redesigned every day with new ways to use them and be able to catch the biggest fish in the lake or stream today. Many more advances will come to the fishing industry in forms of lures and techniques in the future, but that technology is not here right now so we have to use what we know. Here are four different types of lures used to catch walleye.

Casting lures are the most widely known and used lure in the entire world and are used for many different types of species of fish. These lures can also be used to target a curtain breed of fish such as walleye if you know what they like. At low reeling speed, these lures are great for bass and other types of fish that come from behind and swallow the lure.Walleye Lure

The next class of walleye lures used is the heavy casting lure. These lures weigh more and are used to go deeper for the bigger fish that hide of the ledges and underwater debris. These lures are also good for trolling due to the weight they have.

Another type of lure used is known as a long casting or jigging lure. This lure is more useful for anglers in the southern states such as Florida and Mississippi. Studies have shown this lure is more successful at catching bass and pike but it is known to also catch walleye. These types of lures also are great on breezy days.

Diamond lures are one of the smallest and one of the hardest lures to use when fishing for walleye, but they are great in dirty or mucky water. The shine of the lure can reflect the smallest light shining through the water making it a target for walleye, which have great eyesight in these conditions.

Try and use the different lures on your next fishing trip. These lures will sure to add to your fishing experience the next time you reel in a walleye.
