Tea is considered as one of the most important and popular herbal drink which is being consumed throughout the world.  Drinking of green tea has been associated with many Asian cultures, particularly Chinese, for thousands of years.  Drinking of tea is so popular because it has many nutritional and medicinal values as well as it works as a nerve stimulant.  It refreshes a tired mind and body. Tea is made from the leaves of the tea plant. After the leaves are picked from the plants, they are subjected to various other processes like drying, crushing, mixing, fermentation etc. Depending upon the manufacturing processes, tea is grouped into different types like green tea, black tea, ginseng tea etc.  Among the different types of tea, green tea is the most beneficial to health as it is subjected to the minimum manufacturing process.  Unlike black tea, green tea is not fermented and so it contains less caffeine.
 
The tea leaf contains a number of different chemicals such as tannic acid, caffeine etc.  It contains a number of antioxidants such as flavonoids and some other nutrients which are beneficial to the heart.  It is also anticarcinogenic.  Drinking of tea is beneficial to the heart as the antioxidants present in it stops the oxidation of bad cholesterol (LDL) and increases the amount of good cholesterol (HDL).  It also helps to lower the blood pressure. The antioxidants help to fight oxidative stress by destroying the free radicals.  It helps to lower the risk of different cancers such as stomach and esophageal.  It protects from blood clotting and reduces cholesterol.
 
Drinking tea is also beneficial to the smokers. It helps to eliminate nicotine and other injurious chemicals from the system. It also works for alcohol consumption.  Drinking of green tea is beneficial for weight management.  It also helps to reduce tooth decay. When making tea, you should be careful not to make it too strong.  A strong tea contains more tannic acid which may cause indigestion or constipation.  If it is taken before bedtime, it may disturb your sleep.
