Date Added: May 03, 2008 01:41:14 PM

Research has shown that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  After sleeping for about 7-8 hours in the night, when we wake up in the morning, we need fresh energy to start our daily routine.  A good and healthy breakfast provides the necessary energy to get our body moving and to get our brain start working. We generally don't consume any food for about 7-10 hours in the night.  When we get up in the morning, we are generally low on energy and if we skip breakfast it may affect both our body and brain.

A breakfast made up of whole grains and legumes is an excellent source of energy and other necessary nutrients.  It is always better to have whole grains because in refined grains most of the fiber and other necessary nutrients are removed.

Try to avoid all sorts of junk and processed foods like pizzas, burgers, chips, cakes, pastries, wafers etc. These foods contain excess fat, butter, sugar and salt which are bad for your health and they don't provide the essential nutrients for your body.

A good and healthy breakfast may contain the following foods:Breakfast

     (a) Grains like breads and cereals.
     (b) Proteins like meat, beans and nuts.
     (c) Various fruits and vegetables.
     (d) Low fat milk, cheese and yogurt.

Like any other meal, in breakfast variety should be the key.  You may have fruit juice, sandwiches, eggs, cereals, fresh fruits and a variety of other foods.  The following are some of traditional breakfast ideas:

     (a) Eggs.
     (b) French toast or pancakes.
     (c) Cereals with milk.
     (d) Low fat yogurt mixed with fruits and nuts.
     (e) Roasted grains or cereals.

You can have fruits like apples, bananas, oranges, peach etc.  You may also have sandwiches made of different vegetables like carrots, cucumber etc.

Never try to skip your breakfast.  If for some reason, you don't have the time to have breakfast, at least have a fresh fruit or a mix of dry fruits, nuts or some crackers and milk.
