Most people think that self-image is this esoteric abstract term that can not be applied to your day to day life. But they couldn't be further from the truth! Self image is the crucial element of your personality and it's always effecting your behaviours and feelings.
Maxwell Maltz, a famous plastic surgeon, has noticed that in most cases the people who will come for a plastic surgery will feel better about themselves and will become astoundingly more confident, but in rare cases the patients stayed the same and didn't feel any relief from the surgery.
Maltz started researching it and he noticed one common denominator with all those people. They have all had a really bad self-image and they didn't change it after the operation as did other patients who experienced a big boost of confidence.
This is why he started experimenting with different exercises for changing self-image and he found that indeed the self-image can be changed without any external changes.
What this means is, that you don't need a plastic surgery to feel good about yourself. Through the years he has improved his techniques and his ideas became really famous in the fields of psychology and plastic surgery.
First part of this process is to become aware of your self image. This is your mental representation of yourself and you can take a look at it at any time you want, all you have to do is to imagine yourself and see all your qualities, both good and bad.
Now what you want to do is to change it in a way that will show you how much you accept yourself. You want to have the expression on your face that shows that you are perfectly happy with yourself. Basically we are conditioning your mind how to represent yourself unconsciously from now on.
This exercise might take you just a minute, but a rule of thumb is that the more you do it, the faster will it start to work. Another interesting thing that Maltz noticed is that it usually takes twenty days of repetition to fully integrate the new self image in your mind.
So what you want to do is to keep doing this exercise for a few weeks and let yourself be amazed by the power of this simple technique.
