Womens Ectopic Pregnancy Care
Date Added: June 06, 2008 05:41:36 PM

A pregnancy in which the embryo is placed in the lining of the uterus is called as Ectopic pregnancy. It is a complicated pregnancy which does not form inside the womb or uterus.

Most of the common ectopic pregnancy occurs in the fallopian tubes and sometime it may also form in the ovum, abdomen and cervix.

The embryo which develops in the fallopian tube is called as tubal pregnancy and the embryo which develops in the cervix is known as cervical pregnancy and in abdomen is known as abdominal pregnancy. If the fertilized egg does not pass over the uterus and settle in the fallopian tube, it will result in ectopic pregnancy. The fetus that grows in the place other than uterus does not have enough space to grow because only uterus can expand according to the fetus growth and this results in bursting and can lead to death of the mother.

The embryo growing outside of the womb will not have a live birth. As per the research two in 100 pregnant women have an ectopic pregnancy. As a result of ectopic pregnancy there may be a continuous bleeding, pain in the abdomen and sometimes it may result in internal bleeding of womb.

This type of pregnancy should be removed surgically as it moves towards the uterus. The fertilized egg takes about four to five days to reach uterus and it develops inside the uterus, if there is any damage in the fallopian tube the egg will not be able to reach the uterus and it stays in the tube itself resulting in ectopic pregnancy.

Some of the rare cases may have normal delivery of ectopic pregnancy and it is called as heterotopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy may be developed due to the pelvic inflammatory disease, abdominal surgery, pills used for preventing pregnancy or in women over 35.

If the fallopian tube is undamaged after ectopic pregnancy, you could have another pregnancy but if the fallopian tube is damaged then there is no chance of pregnancy again. If the fallopian tube is damaged then fertilization is not possible but you can go for test tube baby if necessary.

The ectopic pregnancy is found between four to six weeks after pregnancy and it can be treated if it is diagnosed in the earlier stage. Tubal pregnancy is the most common type of ectopic pregnancy, 95% of tubal pregnancy occurs in the fallopian tube and 1.5% of the pregnancy occurs in abdomen. The ectopic pregnancy may also result in the death of the women. Swelling in the fallopian tube is also one of the reasons for ectopic pregnancy. If there is any infection in fallopian tube or surgery in the abdomen will also result in ectopic pregnancy.
