BlackBerry Bold

blackberry-boldI have been on a tech binge lately.  What is the latest indulgence?  Well up until recently I have had the same cell phone for at least 4 years.  It was old and way outdated, but it still worked so I found it hard to upgrade.  Well finally my battery went out and I figured I might as well get some new technology.

What did I choose?  Well I purchased a BlackBerry Bold.  Now this is not a tiny cell phone.  It measures 4.5 X 2.6 X .6 inches which I like because it allows me to see the screen, the buttons and actually use them with ease.  Best of all is the size makes it feel solid, comfortable and sturdy in the hand.

The back of the BlackBerry Bold seems to be made from leather, probably synthetic leather but it helps the person using it to get an easy grip and adds a classy element to the look.  As I said the size also makes the keyboard on it easier to use than the others I have seen.

Now one of the best elements is the huge screen which is beautiful with its 480×320 resolution and 217 ppi.  It is stunning in how it renders photos, movies and makes reading emails or surfing the web a breeze.  The auto backlighting feature is genius because it adjusts to the rooms lighting characteristics automatically.

This is my first cell phone with multimedia software built in and it makes me wonder what I was thinking by not upgrading sooner.  Who needs an ipod when you can watch movies, listen to music and view photos easily with this phone plus it has a 3.5 mm stereo/audio jack built-in.

Get this.  The BlackBerry Bold has real GPS which most guys like me need.  The built in GPS works with Google or BlackBerry maps built in and you can also get the ability for turn by turn navigation via a subscription to AT&T Navigator.  The BlackBerry Bold allows access to the external memory from a door on the side so you do not have to remove a battery to get to it.  This is a first as far as I know.

The bottom line for me was the beautiful screen and how easy it is to use with the layout and intuitive design of the features.  I use my cell phone a great deal for business and need accessability and reliability.  As far as cell phones go the BlackBerry Bold is definitely the best in my book and will work well for me over the next 4 years.

I got a Blackberry Bold just before Christmas, it is the best thing since sliced bread.

I know someone who purchased the Iphone 3G around the same time and all I can say is I am glad I went with the BB, the Iphone is missing so many functions that you would expect to get with even a cheaper phone.

I love my Blackberry. I keep in touch with the world all day no matter where I am. I also love the way I can sync it with my google email and keep in touch with my calender and email.

The blackberry is on a solid OS. I had a corrupt program but I was still able to recover my blackberry using the backup function. It even works with Japanese characters if you get the free upgrade. I can study everyday on the bus or when I have 5 mins. It is a huge productivity boast.

I’d like to hear more about the differences between the iPhone and this particular Blackberry as I’m thinking about upgrading myself.
My house is a Mac house however so I’d like to see if you can change my mind about getting the iPhone.

Thanks Mamaflo - I looked at the iPhone 3g briefly, but honestly once I did it was never really in the running. The battery life and connectivity are suspect and there were some critical features I thought were missing compared to the BlackBerry models. I use this phone for business and needed it to basically be a portable office for me. I thought the Bold fit best for what I needed in a cell phone.
