You may have heard much advice related to blogging telling you that it is best to blog about what you know. There are many reasons and benefits to doing this, and here is a brief overview of the ways you can use what you already know to your advantage when it comes to blogging.
If you are an expert in a certain field, it is quite possible that you will be able to offer your readers something that they can’t find on another blog. This might include specific advice on a certain aspect of the subject that it seems many users need help with. If you know about a topic, readers will be able to see this and you will soon be able to build up informative content that readers will come to trust. It will keep people coming back time and time again.
Blogging about what you know may not be as easy as it first sounds, as it requires you to recognise what you know. It may be hard to realise that you actually have particular knowledge in a certain subject. You may also be nervous about how readers will react, and worry that you might think you know something and then be shot down. The most important thing is not to worry. If you know a subject well enough, you can usually find an audience who knows less than you do. And in areas where you are not sure of something, it is perfectly acceptable to be honest and admit to your readers that you are not an expert in that particular area. Blogging is personal and there are no rules, so as long as you are honest you will be fine.
No matter what reason you have to start a blog, the principle of writing what you know about always holds true. Many people start blogs to earn money, but fail after a few months. For one reason, blogging can become tedious when you are writing about something you are not even interested in. This will have a knock-on effect in that readers will realise you are not interested in what you are writing about. They also will not turn to your advice for trusted knowledge in any field, since they know that you can’t provide it.
You might question whether if it is a good idea to blog about what you know, if what you know doesn’t seem like a topic that many people will be interested in. This is not always the most important factor. For example, there are hundreds of blogs about making money online that offer the same content. Although users are definitely interested in this niche, a lot of these blogs just don’t have anything special to offer and don’t succeed. If you write engaging topics on a post you know well then you will be able to get readers.
Writing about what you know not only makes your posts informative and more interesting, but it gives you a much wider pool from which to choose your post topics. If you know a lot about a certain subject, the chances are that you can put a number of posts together in advance, and keep your blog nicely ticking over without having to search for new topic to write about each day. Write about a topic you know nothing about, and you will find it hard to keep the ideas for posts coming to you.
These are the main reasons why you should try to write about what you know. Not only will it create a better blog, but it will also be more fun for you to write. Whether you are blogging for business or pleasure, fun is something that should be an integral part of the blogging process.

Great article! I agree totally. I’ve started blogs on subjects that I know a little about, but quickly ran out of ideas and enthusiasm. Now I blog about what I know: website development.

Great article and I agree, blogging is a lot of work and I also agree about having a blog that allows you to use your passion for what you do as an extention of that passion.
I have a couple of blogs that I maintain, my main one I use to share what is happening with me and stuff that I care about. Sometimes it is marketing, sometimes sales, sometime I share my faith and it is all about how I can serve others.
I just love to write

Hrmmm, blogging about what you know about can truly be a tedious task.
Lets set time aside and just focus on the issue of being a ‘Jack of All Trades, Master of None’ type of guy/girl?
Then what?
