Five Blogging Mistakes That Every Aspiring Blogger Should Avoid

Mistakes Blogging

Blogging is one of the more popular online activities there is right now, and many people are participating in it. Some bloggers have started a blog as a way to display pictures of their children, examine their inner feelings, or keeping up with distant family. Other bloggers however have more commercial goals in mind, and to achieve those goals they have to do a number of things correctly. Aside from all of the positive decisions that need to be made, there are also a number of critical mistakes that need to be avoided. Many people have shown by their actions the steps needed to be taken to be a blogging success, there are also bad examples out there that bloggers can learn from too. Here are five blogging mistakes that every aspiring blogger should avoid.

Dedicating Too Much Time

Having a great blog means dedicating a good deal of time to its design, maintenance and design. Is it possible to dedicate too much time to a blog though? The answer is yes. While operating a successful blog is time consuming, a blogger has to have other endeavors either online or offline which they can pursue as well. In the beginning process of coming up with the general idea and design for a blog, there is a lot of energy that can be focused towards the development of the blog. After awhile though, if the blogger attempts to keep the same amount of schedule and devotion to this one site, they will almost assuredly end up getting burnt out.

There are two main options to combat this problem. A blogger can have a secondary project like an unrelated website or blog that will act as a diversion from the primary blog, but is still a diversionary activity available to them. A blogger can also just use that time to concentrate on another area of their life. The truth about those that over-dedicate themselves to their blog is that in reality much of that extra time is spent either on aspects of the blog that are inconsequential or tasks that will not result in financial or traffic related success anyway. The blogger can usually come out ahead financially in starting or working on secondary project, or by focusing on another area of their life.

Spreading Themselves Too Thin

While over-dedication can be a problem when it comes to turning a blog into a success, it can also be a problem if the blogger has so many different projects that they never have enough time to dedicate to any one project. When a blogger spreads himself too thin, he ends up with two or more projects that are just never quite right. Having one blog that operates correctly and has a completed feel to it is going reap much better results than having three, four, or five blogs that are all half finished, poorly designed, or seldom updated. When a blogger has more online projects going on than they can handle, they will have a hard time achieving any of the goals they have set for themselves or their blogs.

Over Monetization

Blogging is a fun opportunity to not only participate in for commercial purposes, but for personal reasons as well. One of the things that makes blogging popular is the fact that it is possible for blog owners to profit from their efforts. The amount of money that can be made by blogging varies according to the niche subject that the blog covers, the skills and quality of work of the blog owner, and what forms of monetization are used.

One unfortunate thing that many bloggers do when their blog is not bringing them the amount of income that they were hoping is to keep adding possible streams of income. This can backfire though, because when a blog appears crowded with advertisements and ppc network blocks it has a way of turning off readers of the blog and once they leave they may never come back. While it is tempting to add multiple sources of income to a blog, it needs to be done in a way that readers of the blog will not feel like there are more advertisements than quality content. Readers do not come to a blog to view the ads, they come to read or see features and information that interests them.

Poor Market Research

There are many situations in blogging where a blogger can find an available domain name, set up a blog that covers a niche related to the domain, write posts and update the site often, and not succeed because no one comes to visit the blog. There are a number of subjects that a blogger could choose to blog about that have little chance of becoming a success. This can be due to a number of reasons including the fact that there is too much well established competition in the niche, that the subject matter doesn’t translate well to internet commerce or pay per click advertising, or that there is little opportunity for monetization based on the subject or those interested in it.

Inconsistent Posting

One of the biggest keys to making a blog a success is enticing readers to come back again and again. The main way to accomplish this is not only to post quality content, but to post it consistently. When a blogger fails to post to their blog consistently, readers eventually lose interest because they keep coming back to the website over and over and it seems that it always has outdated information or posts that they’ve already read. Posting consistently is the only way for a blogger to make their readers want to check back regularly, because they don’t want to feel like they’ve missed some information or an important post.

There are a number of things that a blogger can do correctly to make their blog achieve the many goals they have set for it, but there are also a great many mistakes they can make too. In order to succeed as a blogger, it isn’t always enough to do things correctly, sometimes success can be found in avoiding key mistakes that can undercut a blog’s chance at success. Learning from the mistakes of others is one of the easiest ways to figure out what blogging errors should be avoided.

Hi! Yeah, I am beginning to burn out. I am stressed and pressured when I see my blogger friends update their blogs everyday. I have 2 part time jobs, and I want to update my blog everyday, so I can get readers and adsense earnings, but it’s really hard not to focus on one thing. Thank you for this post.
