Many bloggers have dreams of their blog becoming one of the more successful blogs on the internet. Blogging is a great way to either bring in extra money or use as a means to a full time income. For a blog to be successful though there are many things that need to be in place on it.
Some of these elements are so important that they should be prominently placed so that visitors to the blog can see them immediately. In fact, this prominent placement of these features is, along with quality content, probably one of the most important factors in determining whether the blog will be a success or not.
1. A visitor to a blog should be able to immediately locate and access the blog’s about page. Many blog readers feel that information about the author of the blog is essential information to know before they often read what the author has written. This gives the reader a better feel for how much the author knows about the subject they are writing about.
2. In a prominent place on any blog owned by someone hoping that it becomes a success should be a list of the featured content of the site. Whether these are the most commented on posts, the most popular posts or simply the posts that the author is the proudest of, they should be easily accessible from and prominently displayed on the front page of the blog.
3. One of the first things a visitor to a blog should see is an RSS and email subscription link. One of the best ways to get repeat visitors to a blog is by having them subscribe to an RSS feed or an email subscriptions. More benefits come from having these links placed prominently on the blog than almost any other feature.
4. Having well placed links to the archives and category listings of a blog is a great way to allow visitors to explore other content that they may also interested in reading. Often visitors have already read the latest post of the blog on another source and are looking for similar content to continue reading. If they cannot easily find a way to access this information, they will go elsewhere to find it.
While there are many things that a blog may exhibit in order to be successful, there are a few things that are a must to be prominently displayed and easily accessible to the traffic that comes to the blog. Following these tips is a great way to maximize the effect that a blog can have on a visitor to it, whether it is their first time to the blog or not. Displaying the most important interactive features of a blog in a way that visitors to it can access them fast and easy is essential in it becoming the success that the blog owner wishes it to be.

I agree with all of your points; Particularly the need to archive and point people to that archive. It’s beneficial on both the search traffic level, since the archive page acts like a site map, and it’s beneficial to new readers looking t learn more.
