As more and more websites appear on the Internet, Google is forced to continually modify the way it determines search ranking. That means that you as an internet business owner has to be willing to continually modify your website to that it reach its full search engine optimization capacity. Right now that means that you have to concentrate on link building.
The Importance of the Perfect Link
People’s thoughts on link building have evolved over the years. We use to think that there was no such thing as a bad link, inbound or outbound, but a couple of scandals later and we have learned that we have to be very careful about what links we have on our websites and where links back to our website are located. The wrong link can actually prove detrimental.
Inbound vs. Outbound
The first thing you need to understand about using links to improve your search ranking. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have any outbound links, just that you should concentrate on increasing the number of inbound links to your website. The types of links that you shouldn’t worry about are reciprocal links, which have very little influence on Google’s WebCrawler’s.
The Golden Link
The absolute best link, the type of inbound link that Google’s WebCrawler’s are really looking for is one that comes from a really big, heavily trafficked website. That means that if you are a small poodle breeder who is trying to increase their search engine page ranking, you really want links from the American Kennel Club and a couple of big time poodle breeders and a couple of poodle shows. With these kinds of links you will shoot directly to the coveted first slot on every search engine.
Don’t Go Overboard
You really need to watch the number of out links you have posted on your website. When a website has to many outbound links the technology that Google uses to determine page rank starts to consider that your website might be nothing more than a link farm. When a website is judged a link farm Google will banish it from it’s directory. When you are posting an outbound link you should try to balance the number of outbound links with the amount of relevant content you have on your website.
Stick to the Basics
When you are working at improving your websites search engine optimization don’t get so caught up in trying to figure out how to link to sites, that you completely forget about other things like filling your website with content rich articles, and providing your customers with a website that is easy to use.
