Great Ways To Make Your Blog Better

Blogging is one of the most popular online activities around these days, and it has achieved this position for a number of reasons. Blogging is a great way for individuals to keep up with family members and friends that have drifted apart over time. Blogging is also a great way for someone to either earn extra money or, as some people have done, to make the transition to being self-employed. With the popularity of blogging though, there is also more competition by bloggers trying to get their share of the available internet traffic that is out there. There are more and more people starting blogs every day and many people in fact own and maintain more than one blog. With all of this blog competition out there, the better your blog is and the more chance you’ll have of it being a success.

Here are some great ways to make your blog better:

Encourage Commenting

There are three main keys to encouraging comments on your blog. First, you must enable the comment function so that people are allowed to comment to the posts you make. Second, you must request people communicate with you through the comment function. Third, and possibly the most important, you must reply or respond to the comments that people make. This last step allows the people commenting to feel like they have a personal investment in your blog and are part of a community of sorts.

Include An About Page

One of the most overlooked part of a blog is the about page. Many bloggers bypass it entirely, when it is truly one of the best ways to inform people of the type of person, writer, or blogger you are. The about page is also a great place to explain the motivations and reasons behind your blog’s existence.

Feed The Eyes

In the modern world of blogging, it is important to whenever possible include images or graphics in your post. The eyes of internet users sometimes get overpowered with endless pages of text and the use of images is a great way to break up long sections of text as well as add to or accentuate the content of a blog post.

Don’t Be So General

While it is tempting to start a blog and write about literally everything in the world, the most successful blogs are written on a specific niche and occasionally items related to that niche. If you develop a second or third topic you wish to write about, there is no law stating you can’t just start a blog for that topic as well. People give more credence to a blog devoted to and covering one topic than they give to a blog that tries to cover every topic.

Make It Easy For Readers To Subscribe

When designing your blog, place the standard orange RSS graphic and the subscription link in an obvious and highly visible location. One of the best ways to encourage repeat readers and also distribution of your blog’s content is to make it as easy as possible for people to subscribe to your blog’s content.

Don’t Be Afraid To Link Out

Blogs are community projects and when you link out to the blogs of other people, they can often see the evidence of your linking to them and respond by reviewing your blog or linking back to you. Who knows, you may even forge an important business relationship that will benefit your blog or online money making hopes for a long time to come.

Be Descriptive And Specific

Most blogs are set up so that the blog post title appears in the URL of that post. For this reason, make sure that you title your blog post in a way that is both descriptive and specific, that way when people search for something online you are making it as easy as possible for them to find it.

Write Often And Consistently

One of the best ways to encourage people to regularly check back and read your blog more often is to make high quality posts both regularly and often. This makes frequenting your website essential to people wanting to read your thoughts or information as in their minds your site will be updated soon and they don’t want to be left out on what is coming next.

There are a number of reasons that many people decide to blog online, some are for personal reasons and some are for more commercial reasons. Whatever the reason is that you have decided to join the world of blogging, there are always ways that you can become a better blogger and ways that your blog can become a better blog. The better your blog becomes and the better chance it will achieve everything you want it to.

Good post with lots of good tips.

One thing that I think we should tell everyone who is about to start a blog is that they should not underestimate the time and effort needed to run a good blog. Writing new, and useful, blogs a couple of times a week can take its toll. (As I have found)

Linking out is an ESSENTIAL that most beginning bloggers overlook - heck even established bloggers over look the importance of linking out! It’s almost as important as commenting on other blogs!

Nice! I should consider starting up new blogs on specific topics now. My current blog is too general like what you mentioned.
