How A Blogger Can Conquer Writers Block

There are a number of reasons that people own and operate a blog.  Some blogs exist for purely personal reasons, some are blogging as a way to earn money, and some are blogging as a way to promote a community.  The amount of different subjects that are covered by different blogs is almost endless.  For anything that anyone could ever think of, there is someone out there blogging about it.

It is very important to the success of any blog for the blogger to consistently and regularly update the content of their blog.  The one thing that keeps visitors coming back to the blog is the fact that there is always something new to read or see once they get there.  One of the hardest things about running a blog is coming up with something new and interesting to write about on a regular basis.

Even the most gifted of communicators, the most talented writers, at one point or another will run into writer’s block.  Writer’s block is a way of describing what happens when a writer has trouble coming up with something to write about.  It is a familiar thing for anyone associated with the world of writing to deal with; journalists encounter it, novelists get frustrated by it, and yes bloggers even have to fight their way through it from time to time.

Different ways bloggers can conquer writer’s block and find something to write about:

The News

One way for a blogger to come up with something to write about when they cannot come up with anything on their own is to check what is in the news.  A quick search of a reliable news source for an article that deals with the same subject matter as the blog should be relatively easy to perform.  Once reading the article thoroughly, the blogger can then recap the news item in their post, link to the article so as to provide reference, and then add their own comments or analysis.  Just restating the news is not a good idea as people can find news items every where and the goal of a blogger should be to provide their readers with something they cannot get elsewhere.

Tell Readers What Not To Do

Many bloggers continually give tips and tricks related to how people can do something better.  Often they will feel they have exhausted a certain amount of information that they can provide to their readers.  A nice writing trick to try is to give a list of what people should not do when trying to accomplish something.  These articles or posts can sometimes be humorous to do as well, and humor is a great writing tool if it can be used appropriately.

Find Out What People Want To Know

Another great way to solve writer’s block is for a blogger to search an online forum or another site like Yahoo Answers and find specific questions that people are looking to have answered.  If the question relates to the subject that the blogger is blogging about, then the blogger can use the question as the basis of a post or article.  This method works for two reasons, number one is that it provides a valid subject to write about, and number two it is answering a question that people interested in that subject matter are already asking.

Review Another Blog Or Site

Even while suffering from writer’s block, bloggers still have the ability to visit websites and blogs that they like.  A good way to find something to blog about is for a blogger to find another site that relates to their blog, and then review it on their blog.  This can be beneficial in multiple ways, including that it not only allows the blogger to write a quality post, but also could lead to some kind of a professional relationship with that blog or blogger when they realize their site has been positively reviewed by the original blogger.

Dealing with writer’s block is nothing new to many people who are involved in the writing process.  The sudden unexplained loss of creativity or inspiration is quite common among writers, and is sometimes very difficult to deal with.  The best way to get through these tough times is to continue writing about anything, a writer never knows when their exploration for writing topics will kick their inspiration back into gear.  Once that happens, their natural writing and talent for communication will take over and the worst will be behind them.
