How to Increase Your Google Adsense Earnings

The potential for earning money is quite high with Google AdSense.  It is a very popular thing to put on blogs and websites but these people aren’t actually achieving the earning potential that they could.  If you follow these steps you will start increasing your revenue from Google AdSense.

1. Focus the content of your blog or website towards one subject.  This is because Google AdSense shows ads on your site that pertain to the keywords that it picks out from your webpage or blog post.  The idea is that people that are reading your content might be interested in products that also have to do with that content.  If you are running a blog on airplanes and piloting, chances are most of the people that read your blog will be pilots or otherwise have an interest in airplanes.  Google AdSense tailors the ads on your blog with links to products and services that have to do with airplanes and other things pilots would be interested in.  When you give your blog a primary focus the more likely your readers will be interested in the ads on Google AdSense.

2. Be consistent with your content.  You have to decide whether the purpose of your blog is to make you money or be an outlet for your opinions and writings.  If the purpose is to make you money than your pilot blog is not going to be the best place to post Grandma’s oatmeal cookie recipe.  The recipe post is probably not going to get a whole lot of clicks on the Google AdSense ad.  A review of the biography of pilot well known in history will get more clicks on the Google AdSense ad that is shown with that post.  It is OK to put the recipe post on your blog, just don’t bet on the income coming from it.

3. Increase the number of value visitors to your blog or website.  These are visitors that are more likely to click on ads and generate revenue for you.  The majority of your readers will come to your site to absorb your content and not put any money in your pocket.  This isn’t a bad thing but you need to concentrate on the visitors that are more likely to make you money.  This is the traffic that your blog gets its value from. The easiest way to get more value visitors is to increase the overall number of visitors to your site.  To do this you are going to want to make your posts up to date and interesting.  If you really want to make money from your blog you should be posting multiple times a day.  A daily post would probably be the minimum if you want your blog to get and keep valuable visitors.  The idea is to make people stay on your blog for as long as possible and return frequently.

Google Adsense is a great tool for making money.  Just like any tool it needs to be used correctly for maximum benefits.  Go through your blog or website to see where you can make a more focused, consistent site and think about what you can do to add value for visitors.

Ooh I’ve been with Adsense since mid last year and I hardly made $.01 in a day. In regards to your number 1 I’m having a hard time focusing on just one subject since I started my blog with it being random in mind so I basically just write about things that happened to me, critique, photos, etc etc. Well guess I have to work hard and be a lot more patient. :)

I’ve been with adsense a over 2 years now and its been generating good money for me. Any blogger or webmaster should take advantage of google’s tools to see which ads on which areas on their site get clicked as well as submit their sitemaps for marketing purposes to get some traffic to thier site. Great post by the way. :)

Bruce, have you heard/experienced anything about earnings per click dropping after awhile? I’ve seen it on a couple sites; it seems like epc are high, then drop off over time…

Mike I have heard of this happening, but all I have experienced is mild fluctuations which has more to do with the content driving the niche of the ad which displays.

Focus in one niche is required to get good earnings on adsense. You must also know how to incorporate the ads into the content too.

Text ads do better for the most part, but sometimes an image ad will start appearing on my site that gets a lot of clicks. For example, if one appears for the iPhone, people just love to click on those things ads. People also seem to flip over anything to do with music.
