Blogging is an area that has really taken off in recent times, not only in the field of personal bloggers but as a serious way in which small business can promote their company. More and more businesses are creating their own blogs, and using the blog’s tools and visitors in order to promote their services or product. Here is a brief guide to the specific ways in which you can start using blogs to promote your business.
The main reason that businesses choose to start blogs is that, firstly, it will help create a familiar brand name for the business that users will come to recognise, and secondly, it can prove as a way of driving the traffic gained from the blog to the business’ specific product or service website. The key question here is how to get traffic to the blog in the first place, and there are a number of different ways to do so.
Commenting on other blogs in the same niche as your business blog is a great way to attract targeted visitors to your blog and ultimately to your business. Viewers to the blogs you are commenting on are already interested in your niche so are extremely likely to click on the links in your comments, especially if your comments are particularly insightful and informative or shed a new light on a certain subject. Users will soon be visiting your business blog to find a unique perspective on the subject.
When blogging the saying goes that “content is king”: it really is good quality content, and frequent updates, that will drive users to your blog. And traffic to your blog means publicity for your business. When creating content it may be necessary to hire some quality writers to create this for you if you do not have the time or the writing skill to create unique content. Unique also means that you should try and offer a perspective on a product or service that nobody else is offering. This is one thing that will make users choose your blog over the others available in the same niche.
When deciding on content for your business blog it will probably be a good idea to stick to a certain topic relating to your business. After all, if people are interested in the topics on your blog you want them to go on and check out the products and services that your business has to offer. There may be many sub-topics within that broad topic, but make sure not to alienate readers by moving from a discussion of the weather one day to reviewing PCs the next.
Another way in which businesses are utilising blogging to their advantage is in the way in which users can provide instant feedback which businesses then use to improve their services and to get a feel for what customers are looking for. This can provide an invaluable tool for your business but it will only work if you have the visitors to begin with, so start by building up a solid base of readers before working on methods to gain feedback.
Business blogs also have a great way of attracting new visitors to their site, and this is known as “guest blogging”. Put simply, this means allowing another blogger to write a post on your site, or when you write a post on somebody else’s blog. Either way, guest blogging can provide links between the two blogs, and encourage readers of one blog to visit the guest blogger’s own blog. Finding influential guest bloggers can be hard, but will be worth it not only for the readership it will bring with it but for the added dimension and authority this will add to the content on your own blog.
These are some of the most popular methods by which businesses have begun to use blogging as a tool for reaching out to a larger audience and gaining feedback on their service. There are many other ways in which you can build a good following for your business, but it is always a good idea to get a good readership first.

WOW! I’m so glad I found this blog. I came across you through Entrecard, and I’m so pleased I did. You’ve got tons of amazing tips and valuable info for aspiring bloggers (and some who just aren’t as experienced as others!). Thanks for all the info!

Thank you for these insights. I’ve used most of the techniques you list to bring people to my blog. I’ve found some other ways as well:
1. Don’t write “articles” on your blog. Share information, but personalize the information. This encourages people to comment.
2. Don’t simply advertise your products. Let people know about other people’s blogs or other people’s resources. If you just advertise your products, it gets stale.
3. Invite guest bloggers who also have blogs where you can post. Don’t invite people who do not yet have blogs. I say this with a caveat. If the guest blogger has excellent content that would benefit your audience, it might be worth giving them visibility on your blog.
4. Add blogs to your blogroll and ask to be added to other blogrolls. Identify 5 or 6 blogs where you want to establish yourself. If you try and blog on every blog you see, helter skelter, you’ll waste a lot of time. It’s best to focus your blogging.
4. Use Twitter to bring people to your blog. Twitter’s daily Tweets help you tell people what you’re blogging about. That’s how I found this blog!
Thanks,
Joan
