Linkbaiting Techniques That Can Work For Your Blog

No blog owner is one hundred percent satisfied with the level of success that their blog has achieved. They all want more traffic and with increased traffic usually comes increased income. But how to go about getting that traffic is the question.

One of the most popular terms thrown around in web development right now is linkbaiting. Linkbaiting is the process of posting something to a blog or other website that is an attraction for other people to come and see, use, or link to. Linkbaiting usually involves something that may be a bit outlandish or shocking, and is also usually something that cannot be found on another website.

Here are some proven linkbaiting techniques that have worked at different times for other blogs:

Controversy

Making controversial comments or even just posting about a controversial subject is a great way to attract people to your blog. In doing so, you don’t have to be offensive or rude, you just have to say something outlandish about a topic that many people already find controversial.

Humor

Approaching a subject, especially a very serious one, with humor is a way in which many people will seek out your blog. People often are on the internet to escape the stresses of real life, and humor has always been a great stress reliever.

Statistics

Offering statistics, or applying them in a way that they are not usually used or haven’t been used yet, attracts readers interested in that subject matter who want to read something about it that they haven’t read before.

Free Give-Aways

There are few things that can attract more people to your blog like giving away something of perceived value. This can be a physical item, an ebook, free advertising, or almost anything else.

Embeddable Web Tools

Another great way to get readers to come to your blog is by offering tools and the code that creates them so that people can take that tool and embed it on their site as well. An added benefit of this is often the tool, or part of that tool, links back to the original site as well.

Quizzes And Polls

Reader participation is a great linkbaiting technique too. Asking a reader’s opinion or quizzing their knowledge on a certain subject attracts readers interested in those types of features.

Scoop The Competition

A great way to attract new readers to your blog is by covering subjects first before the competition has a chance to. Many people, upon hearing of a new product or service, look for more information that they can get as soon as possible, make your blog one of the places they come to by covering these items first.

Offer The Chance To Be Famous

By offering readers the chance to be featured on your blog, either by being a guest blogger themselves, or just by linking to their site, you are catering to the desire some people have to see their name up in front of people. Many people flock to websites that offer a chance for them to become known to the public, even when it is the online public.

Linkbaiting is a popular technique in the constant search for more and more traffic that many blogs use, and use well too. By using linkbaiting properly, you can not only get one-time visits from people searching for creative and interesting content, but you can establish your blog as a place to come back to in the future because it consistently offers something that other blogs do not. With the incredible amount of websites and blogs available on the internet, the blogs that stand out will get the most traffic. Make your blog stand out by properly using linkbaiting techniques to their fullest capacity.

Controversial comments are always a good way to get a bit of link bait going but never forget that you got to be ready to back it up!!!

Nothing worse, IMO, to instigate a good “debate” and not be ready for it with good arguments…

    Regards, Pete

Hi, I stopped in via the entrecard toolbar and found your post very interesting!

What really intrigued me though was the ‘I Love Social Bookmarking” plugin. It’s now installed on my blog and is exactly what I’ve been looking for - thanks for that!!!

If you drop by, you’ll see my post about Stumble Upon - I tried for over an hour to make it work - with no luck….
