There are many ways to make money online, and blogging is one of the most popular methods. There may be many reasons you want to make money from your blog; perhaps you want to get some extra pocket money from your free time, or maybe you want to use it as a full-blown career. It won’t happen overnight, but there are people making money by blogging professionally. Here are some steps to get you started.
1. Take Action
One of the mistakes that many people make after deciding to use blogging to make money is not taking enough action. Perhaps you already read a number of ‘how to make money online‘ blogs for tips on starting up. Whilst many of these sites offer the same advice, there are some great tips to be learned. However, any good make money blog will also tell you that you need to take action as well as learning what to do. You might think you need to take time before you are ready to begin, but the truth is you will never see results if you don’t take action.
2. Attract Visitors
Most of the methods of making money on your blog will be no good unless you actually have visitors to your blog. And how to you get visitors to a blog? By creating great content! Content is the most important part of a blog, so make sure it is interesting, informative and knowledgeable. There is no point in creating a blog about a subject that you know nothing about. Write with enthusiasm and this will draw in the readers.
3. Regular Updates
As well as writing great content, you need regular content. Producing daily blog posts will always increase your visitor count, where users will come back for freshly updated information. As you start out, you can write as many posts as possible and schedule them in order to publish one, or even two or three, posts per day to attract the visitors. It is your choice as to whether you should post on weekends, but this may be a good idea when you are first starting out and need to increase your readership.
4. Sell ads on your blog
Selling ads is one of the most popular ways in which people are making money on their blogs. If you have a good readership then you definitely have the potential to make money selling ads. Google Adsense is the most popular program. It provides targeted ads to your site and you receive money every time users click on them. However, you may also find it more profitable to sell ads directly for a monthly or weekly fee. Experiment with different types of ads and different placements and you can see which brings in the most money.
5. Affiliate Sales
As well as selling ads you can also sign up to be an affiliate of your favourite products and services. For example, Amazon will allow you to place links on your blog and you will earn a commission on every item sold through that link. This is great if you have a blog about book reviews, for example, where each review can be linked to the relevant product on Amazon. There are hundreds of online products and services which offer affiliate commissions, so find one that suits the content of your site.
6. Paid Blog Posts
Paid blog posts are extremely popular as they are available to the beginner as well as the professional and experienced blogger. It may seem crazy to get paid for posting a certain post in your blog, though it is possible and there are many services which provide these posts for you. PayPerPost is an example of a popular service which will pay you a minimum of 5 USD per post, with certain requirements ranging from a minimum word count to including an image. This can be very easy money, though you will be hugely restricted on the posts you can select when your blog is just starting out. Once you have established your site, with a decent amount of traffic and a good ranking in Google, you will have the potential to earn a lot using this method.
Conclusion
These are the six most popular methods used by bloggers starting to make money from their blogs. As your traffic improves and you learn about the trends of your users you will probably see many ways in which to improve your earnings through blogging. Making money through your blog can be hard work in the early stages, so make sure you are prepared to put in the effort and it should pay off further down the line.
