I’m sure if you’re reading this article you know what Twitter is - a fast-paced social networking site where you sent out real time status updates about anything - but did you know you can actually make money with all those tweets you send?

The most straight forward and easiest concept for most people to understand is simply putting a small advertisement at the end of each tweet. Perhaps you own a website and you are struggling to drive traffic to it. All you need to do is setup a Twitter account, amass a couple hundred followers who will “hear” your tweets and then start tweeting as you normally would. Except now, at the end of each tweet you will include your website address and a small statement. This may seem quite useless in the big scheme of things, but you would be surprised at how many people will click a website address out of pure curiosity.

The second way to utilize Twitter to earn money is to secure an advertising agreement with another company. The more followers you have, the higher amount the company will likely pay for your services. This is essentially like step # 1, but now you are advertising for a different company, not for your own. Perhaps you have secured an advertising agreement with a local landscaping company. At the end of each tweet you would add something like “visit Bob’s Landscapers - best in town.” The wonderful thing about this method is you don’t have to worry about how effective the advertising actually is - you get paid a flat rate depending on how many you send out.

Another method for earning money on Twitter is to charge a flat fee for another person to send a tweet from your account. Now, this might seem a bit scary, but rest assured you don’t have to relinquish your account to do this. You simply have people email you or tweet you the ad that they want broadcasted on your account. You charge them a fee per message sent and then broadcast the ad to your followers. Now, this is obviously going to be dependent upon how many followers you have. You will need at least 10,000 followers if you are going to earn any sort of money using this method.
