The promotion and marketing aspects are two of the most important tasks that need to be done to make any website successful. This is even more of a big deal if the website being promoted is new and unfamiliar to everyone who goes online. One of the most effective ways of promotion for such sites is link building. Properly building links that point back to the website being promoted is one of the surest ways of making it a success. For new websites just starting out there are a number of link building strategies available, here are seven of them.
1. Reciprocal Linking
For website owners trying to build links for a new website, a perfect option is reciprocal linking. There are thousands of other webmasters out there in the same predicament who would also benefit from participating in this type of link building strategy. Reciprocal linking is basically trading links with other websites so that both websites end up linking back to each other. It usually works best if the subject matter of the two websites is related.
2. Forum Signatures
One of the best ways to build links for a new website is to find one or more forums that cover the same subject that the website or blog does, and then promote the sites through use of a forum signature. Most modern forums allow members to join and participate in discussion. They then allow the user to create a signature that appears beneath every single item they post. By making this signature link back to the website being promoted, the website owner is continually creating links to their website every time they post a comment, question, or answer someone else’s question.
3. Provide Services
For a website owner that possesses marketable skills like content creation, web design, application or plugin development, or something else that other webmasters may find of value, they have a valuable tool to make use of. By providing their services to other webmasters, they can in return get promotion through either links being placed on those websites or blog posts being written thanking them or acknowledging the services they provide.
4. Guest Blog Posting
A great way for the owner of any new website or blog to build links back to their site is to provide free content, in the form of a guest blog post, for another more established blog. This is valuable to the owner of the other blog because it is content they do not have to create and can add value to their blog. Many blog owners provide a courtesy link back in exchange for providing a guest blog post while others allow for the guest poster to include a link to their site within the post they write.
5. Alternate Blog Platforms
Whether wanting to build links to a website or blog, one easy and free way to do so is by leveraging the power of one of the many free alternate blog platforms available. Blogger, Wordpress, and many others provide free blogging space to those that want it, all they require is signing up. Operating a free blog, even on an extremely part-time basis, is a good way to build links back to the website that is actually being promoted.
6. Social Networking
Participating in any of the popular social networking possibilities like MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Digg, and more can be an effective way of getting a large amount of traffic in a hurry. A website owner looking to promote their site this way may decide to ask for, and even have to pay for, help so that more than just he is utilizing this method of promoting his site.
7. Directory Submissions
One of the old standard ways of link building and website promotion is directory submission. There are a great many online directories out there that provide listings for various websites that are online. To get the best results, it is highly recommended that a website owner concentrate on directories of high quality while submitting to categories related to the subject of the website they are trying to promote.
Building links back to promote a website can sometimes seem like a huge task, and to be honest, sometimes it is. The job seems especially daunting when it comes to building links for a new website that has yet to establish itself online or that has yet to develop a following and reputation. The truth is though that there are a number of ways to promote even new websites, and as a bonus, many of them are free. Building links that point back to a website is very important, especially for a website that is brand new. It can be reassuring to know though that this link building process is far from impossible.
