A freelance writer’s time is their most important asset as it is the one thing that they will almost always be short on. Most writers have an almost limitless amount of creativity to rely on, but time is the one thing that they will almost certainly always run out of at some point. The projects that a writer commits to are often very dependent on their the meeting deadlines that are set by the person responsible for purchasing the content. There are many factors that can cause time to run short for a freelance writer. Distractions have always been a problem for those that write for a living. There are also times when a writer has to deal with writer’s block and this can cause an extended amount of time to be wasted trying to think of the next subject to write about. A problem that can come up from time to time, especially when a writer is tackling an extensive writing project, is burnout. Sometimes so much attention and time is spent on one subject or one project that it cause the writer to not want to think about that subject at all anymore.
Sometimes a great strategy that a writer can use to combat burnout is to work on more than one project at a time. By switching from project to project a writer’s mind stays sharp and never becomes overwhelmed by one subject. Some writers find a problem working on multiple projects at one time in that they feel the pressure is multiplied because of having multiple deadlines. Most writers however find that they can work more efficiently when they don’t have to give one hundred percent of their concentration to one limited line of thinking.
While working on multiple projects at once can alleviate some of the problems that lead to burnout for a writer, it does require some different types of administrative decisions to be made. A writer working on more than one project may have to start these projects earlier so that they will have enough time to finish both of them when they are needed. A writer employing this strategy may also need to develop their prioritizing abilities further as there may come a time when circumstances require one project to be finished before the other one. Overall though, having the luxury of another ongoing project to turn to when a writer starts to feel burnt out on the project they are working on could be the kind of working style that they excel in.
Writing for a living is not always the easiest thing to deal with, there are a number of factors that can negatively affect the work schedule and progress of a freelance writer. From writer’s block to burnout, a writer needs to possess a wide variety of tips and tricks that will allow them to work their way out of a tight spot. Good writers know the value of having strategies like working on multiple projects at one time in their repetoire of writing skills. Avoiding burnout is a great way to ensure that a writer has a better shot at being a success, not just in the project they are currently working on, but in their chosen career as a freelance writer too.
