Starting Your Own Blog? Why You Need Your Own Domain

Blogging is one of the more popular activities on the internet.  Whether running a personal blog or a blog meant to make money, many people start blogs for different reasons every day.

When someone starts their blog they have to answer one basic questions, should they use one of the many free blog providers or should they get their own domain name?  Without a doubt, if at all possible, any blogger who is even remotely serious about their endeavor should do with their own domain name.

There are a number of reasons that using their own domain name is a much better solution for bloggers than using the free blog sources available on the internet.  These advantages range from flexibilty and control to esteem and credibility.  There are just too many bonuses available to those that host their blogs on their own domains.

When blog owners have their blog hosted on their own domain, they can then control every single aspect of the blog.  They can install the plugins and scripts of their choosing, don’t have to put up with annoying third party advertisements, and are in complete control of nearly every aspect of their blog and domain.

Operating a blog on a free blog supplier means that a blog owner in fact truly doesn’t own their own blog.  The free blog company can institute new rules at any time, can remove a blog that they may decide they have a problem with when they choose, and can even go out of business or cease operations leaving the blog owner with nothing to show for all their work.

Many free blog suppliers also put their own advertisements on their users’ blogs in exchange for allowing the blog owner to have the free online space.  The only way for blog owners to be in complete control of a blog, or any website for that matter, is to have it hosted on their own domain name.

The other main benefit there is to hosting a blog on its own domain is that it provides a certain amount of credibility to both the blog and the blog owner.  When people go to a website, if they see that it is hosted on a free hosting supplier, they assume that the owner and possibly the information are less professional and reliable than someone else who appears more serious because they have their own domain.  Large companies and authoritative people do not have their blogs or sites hosted on free hosting companies, they have their own domain names for this exact reason.

When looking at the issue completely objectively, there is truly no reason for anyone taking blogging seriously to go with having their blog hosted on a free hosting service.  When taking into account both the ability to be looked at more seriously and the fact that the entire blog and everything included on the website is more manageable, it is clear that having their own domain name should be the way almost every blog owner should go.

Having the control over the ads and structure is important. Your blog will be able to stand out inthe crowd of other blogs in your niche.

Hosting doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. When you pay for two years at a time, the price is reasonable.
