I did it! I ordered a Kindle 2 - The Latest Generation. Though it took a few days to receive it , it only took a few hours for our whole family love it.
My entire family enjoys reading. That is my wife, daughter and I and the Kindle 2 makes it easy to get lost in the world of a good book. The size of the Kindle is appropriate and easy to read. Navigating is a breeze because a press from your thumb makes it easy to change pages with one hand. It comes in handy when you’re sipping on a coffee or latte.
What I like about the Kindle 2.
It has never been easier to find and purchase a new book. With the Kindle 2 you can look up a book and review the summary. Then if it appeals to you buy it and download it in under a minute to your Kindle 2. The whole book downloads wirelessly to your Kindle 2 in only a few seconds.
The paper like screen is fabulous with no glare. I thought that point was incredible as I expected there to be glare as with most screens. The print is very crisp with variable font sizes for those like me, who are hitting the point where reading glasses are becoming a requirement.
You do not need to be in a hot spot in order to connect because Amazon pays for Kindle’s wireless connectivity charges. There is never a monthly wireless bill for connecting with your Kindle 2.
It is smaller and weighs less than most paperbacks weighing in at 10.3 ounces with the ability to store your entire library.
The top US newspapers and some of the top magazines can be all auto delivered to your Kindle 2 wirelessly. You can have the morning paper sitting by your bed when you wake up in the morning which I absolutely love. Tired of going out in the cold or rain in the morning? Well you no longer have to.
There is the ability to bookmark, access Wikipedia, and a built in dictionary all from the Kindle 2.
Don’t worry about content because there are currently over 230,000 titles available and it is growing daily. Of the 112 New York Times Best Sellers 105 are available on the Kindle 2.
It took me a day to realize that the battery life is affected by whether or not you’re actively using the wireless feature. With the wireless off while I was only reading the charge lasted me for several days and charging runs about an hour or two for a full charge.
The Kindle 2 plays mp3 files, which makes it useful for listening to audio versions of books or music. Plus the Read-To-Me feature turns every book into an audio book.
While we have owned the Amazon Kindle 2 it has been somewhat life changing for me and my family. My wife and I have been reading at least an hour more per day, but we typically have to wait till our daughter goes to bed or school to get our hands on it. She has nearly taken it over. She can read Harry Potter and Twilight over and over again. It is really to the point where we are going to be ordering at least one more.

Great review and very helpful too. I’ve been considering buying a Kindle for my husband as a gift. Did you compare it with the Sony version before making your purchase?

Thanks Lynne, we did take a look at the Sony PRS-505. After reading the reviews and checking the features we decided on the Kindle and are glad we did.

Nice write-up on the Kindle 2. I’ve been kind of skeptical of these things but I now may give one a try.
