Thousands of people attempt to make money online each and every day. There are a great many people that do so on either a part time basis or as an every now and then thing. There are however a large number of people that look to the internet as where they wish to make their full time income. Earning a full time income online is possible, there are most likely millions of people who do it, but it also takes a much more than most people assume. There are a wide variety of reasons that people fail when they attempt to make money online, but there is one reason that stands taller than all the rest.
Most people are not cut out to be self-employed.
There are a number of different online money making strategies available, and many of them are valid. People are making a full time income online right now using blogging, web development, affiliate sales, auctions, classified ads, programming, freelance writing, business services, and more. It doesn’t matter what method someone is using to try and make a living online, if they are not cut out to be self-employed then they will not succeed.
For example, the biggest obstacle to a freelance writer in terms of what will keep them from being a success is not writer’s block or the amount of time they have available, the biggest obstacles they will face are can they self motivate themselves, can they stick to a schedule, can they avoid the temptations that come up when a person has no boss, and can they handle the business tasks that need attention in every field?
Many people seek to be self-employed without knowing what it entails. Most self-employed people either start out with no employees or never get to the point where they need to hire employees. These entrepreneurs often think that when they are their own boss that they can start working part time and spend their work day on the golf course or at the beach.
The truth is though that when someone first becomes their own boss they need to realize that they are not a web marketer, they are not a freelance writer, they are not a programmer, they are in fact a business owner. Now they not only have to pay attention to the marketing, writing or programming, but they also have to pay attention to collecting payment, purchasing materials, bookkeeping, and even emptying the garbage. The payoffs for being their own boss are great, and for many people they are worth all of the other stuff that needs to be done, but all of those other tasks do need to be done.
It doesn’t matter what the talents are of the person going into business for themselves, it doesn’t matter even how good they are at their job, if they are not a good business person or a person willing to perform all of the tasks needed to run the business, then they will not succeed. A person who wants to be a success as their own boss needs to realize that being self-employed is not about being the boss. It’s about being the boss, the marketing department, the accounting department, the secretarial staff, and even the maintenance crew. To be successful and self-employed means a business person has to be well rounded, realistic, and persistent when it comes to accomplishing everything it takes to run a business on a daily basis.
