Now just in case you did not read about The Amazing Kindle 2, well I bought one which was subsequently hi-jacked by my wife and daughter. However, I am able to sneak off with it to a corner chair which sometimes ends up being in the wee hours of the morning when all are asleep. Since I don’t care to sneak anything I purchased in order to use it we will be purchasing another Kindle 2 soon.
That is not the purpose of this post though. About 2 AM this morning I was able to finally finish reading The Shack which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Oh yes I had heard “the buzz” on The Shack through word of mouth which seems to have really helped The Shack become popular. Most of our friends who already read The Shack would say how much they loved it while some critics write on how it fails to meet their literary standards.
We gave it a shot and purchased the Kindle version of The Shack. Maybe I am rebels against the critics but I found the premise for The Shack intriguing. Being a father I felt for MacKinzie Phillips who goes on a camping trip with his children only to have one kidnapped. The grief he goes through which causes his marriage to struggle and his faith to falter pulls at your heart.
When he receives an invitation in his mailbox, seemingly from God, inviting him back to the shack where his daughter’s bloodstained dress was found. Well, what could he do?
The encounters that follow in the book work to provoke thoughts in both Phillips and the reader. This is what really captured my attention and wrapped me into the book. This story may never meet the literary standards of the critics but the words are vibrant and full of life. The Shack may be fiction, but it is full of wonder and wisdom which is thought provoking.
