Blogging is a personal decision. If you want the people to know what you are thinking and what you’re passionate about then you should be blogging. Blog about something that you are passionate about. If it’s the war and blog about the war and if you’re passionate about horses then blog about horses.
Blogging about the antics of your dog may not make you but it may very well garner you some friends and lots of laughs and if that’s what you want, then that’s what you shall get.
Remember blogging is a communication tool. So whatever you are blogging about, other people will be answering you on your blog with their opinions, whether they agree or disagree with you, so keep this in mind when you’re blogging. You must have thick skin when you’re blogging because there will be people who disagree with you and what you have to say even though it’s your blog and you can say whatever you want to say there will be disagreements and you have to handle them with calmness and conviction to what you have to say. This is a country built on free speech and that’s why blogging is so good for everyone.
If you own a small business you want to blog about what is new in your business, new products, new merchandise, specials of the day, perhaps there’s a new employee or you’re doing something special for the week. You can come up with all different types of things to blog about if you own a small business such as a blog only special for people who read the blog they get a discount and when other people hear this they will want to read your blog to end this only brings in more business and expand your business.
If you’re part of a large business group, blogging is also a good idea. Blogging about stock options, what the warehouse guys are doing to improve customer satisfaction, sales and anything you can think of that people would like to know about your business belongs in your blog. Hospitals have blogs so they can share what is happening on each floor of the building. Each department has their own blog within a large blog so everyone can have a say in what’s going on or anything special happening within the department.
If you’re passionate about animals you might want to start a blog about spaying and neutering your pets. And what the ramifications are when pets go unneutered, and how over crowded the humane societies are getting and how few “no kill” shelters there are in the United States. This blog will help spread the word to spay and neuter your dogs and cats and hopefully cut down the population of unwanted animals. People get very passionate about animal rights and you will get a lot of feedback on your blog. And this is what you want because a blog as a communication tool.

I find that negative comments are actually the most interesting responses and prompt the most interesting interactions–if they can be kept polite.

For a small business keeping the blog will not only help your customers to know what products will be introduced e.t.c. but also will help to hear back from them and judging on customer’s feedback will influence invaluable decisions

Great point Max - running a blog to keep your clients and customers informed plus interact with them is extremely usefull.
