Why A Blogger Should Be Wary Of Starting A Second Blog

Blog Crazy

Most bloggers got into the blogging activity because they both have a gift for and thoroughly enjoy communicating ideas to people. By simply regularly reading most high quality blogs, it is easy to see how much the author enjoys what they do. There are a number of times though that a blogger will consider starting a new blog. There are a great many good reasons to start a new blog, but a blogger needs to be careful not to neglect their original blog when they do so.

One popular reason that a blogger may choose to start a new blog is that they would like to expand into a new subject matter. Often after running a blog for a length of time, a blogger will desire to expand into other niches so that they can fully experience other ideas and subjects. By starting a new blog, a blogger may rejuvinate their blogging routine by being able to use this new subject matter as both inspiration and a release so that they are fresher and more creative in the end.

One issue that can confront bloggers, just as it affects many other industries and positions, is burnout. Burnout is real and can be devastating to a blogger as they could lose interest in their main blog or other blogs and fail to update them on a regular basis. One way to combat burnout is to start a new blog on a completely unrelated topic, possibly even a personal blog. In this way, when an escape is needed from the subjects and opinions that are explored on a daily basis, this new blog will be there as a safety net.

Another reason that a blogger may choose to start a new blog is that they are seeing a lack of results in the blog, or blogs, that they are currently running. Most bloggers set goals that they hope their online endeavors will reach, if the original blogging efforts are not progressing towards those goals, the blogger may decide then to launch a new blog with the hope of reaching those goals. Sometimes a fresh start using information learned during the first blogging exercise is all that is needed to catapult a blogger into the desired land of successful blog owners.

The best reason that a blogger would have to start a new blog though is for the income potential. Often through communicating with others and brainstorming, a blogger will come across an idea for a blog that will capitalize on what they see as a niche market that is not being fully represented or exploited by other blogs. If the blogger has the available resources and time needed to update and maintain a new blog, and has an idea that they think is marketable, there is really no excuse not to move in the direction of a new blog.

Blogging is a popular activity that many people participate in. There are those that really enjoy blogging, sometimes to the point that they would like to start a second or third blog. There are many reasons to start a new blog, but if the blogger does not have the time available to update and maintain the new site then it could actually take away from the blogger’s other blogs. It would be a very sad thing if legitimately high quality blogs were allowed to drift into disrepair through inattentiveness because a blogger chose to take on more than they could handle by expanding into new blogs they were not equipped to handle.
