Why Being a Part-Time Blogger is Not a Bad Thing

Build Blog

Whether because of financial difficulties or as a desire to have a home or online money making business, many people are turning to blogging as a way of accomplishing their goals. Running a blog can be time consuming and a lot of work, but it can also be very financially rewarding too. Full-time blogging is a lucrative business that many people are finding works well with their employment goals as well as the skill set they already have. Blogging on a part-time basis is also possible. In some circles though, there is a stigma that goes with being a part-time blogger. Many think that part-time bloggers are not professional or serious about their businesses. While this may be true in some cases, there are still many reasons that blogging part-time makes a lot of sense.

Supplemental Income

Economic times are tough and many people are looking for a way to enhance their income. For anyone with a steady job, or anyone living paycheck to paycheck, having the extra income that can come from running a successful blog can be the difference that it takes to pay a much needed bill or to provide a family with a few extras. While the income that comes from blogging may change from month to month, a decent amount can usually be made with a minimal time commitment.

Safety Net

Starting and running a blog can be less painful when the blogger has the safety net of a full-time job. While a full-time income can be made from blogging and other online businesses, when there is no full-time job present there can be a lot more pressure on making a blog a success. By keeping their full-time jobs, bloggers can assure that their monthly bills will be getting paid while they also focus on establishing a money making online presence.

Scheduling Freedom

Unlike standard occupations, blogging part-time allows more freedom in the life schedule area of someone’s life. Besides the obvious situations like medical emergencies or unexpected appointments where all a blogger would have to do is change the time of day that they perform their blogging duties, part-time blogging also allows for short vacations to be taken very easily as content can be written away from home or ahead of time. Modern blogging software and platforms make it very easy to write and schedule content to appear daily or multiple times a week as if the blogger is updating the site each day when in fact they are away from home.

Diversion and Release

Even when money is not the primary goal that a blog owner has set for their online project, there can still be benefits that come from their blog. There are a number of real world stresses that come with life, and blogging can be a great diversion from stressful jobs and situations. Also, when pressure does build up from the workplace or home life, blogging can serve as a great release for the blogger so that they can recharge and refocus on those real life responsibilities.

Reinvestment

A part-time blogger who is not reliant on their blog to make the money they need for life’s daily expenses has more business freedom than full-time bloggers do. Blogging for money is a business, and like most businesses can suffer from lack of funds just as it can excel when properly funded. By blogging part-time, a blogger is free to reinvest any money made by the blog back into software or services that will help that blog continue to become a success online entity.

There are a great many people who for a number of reasons are looking for a way to start making money online. One of the most popular paths for these people to take is through blogging. Before someone takes the step of blogging full-time, they can take a trial run at their newly chosen profession on a part-time basis. Part-time blogging is one of the best ways to still enjoy the stability and safety of full-time employment while still taking steps towards establishing a valid and possibly successful online business.

I enjoyed this article very much. I am a part-time blogger myself and I sometimes wonder how I will really make out with this venture. While I am learning I am able to vent about things or state my opinion and it is very helpful with relieving everyday stress.

Very well put. I have blogging for 9 months and have had ups and downs monetarily but have met so many people and have learned so much about the process that it keeps me interested and entertained. Plus I make a little extra.

Same here. I blog part time and it’s more like a hobby. So whatever money I get is a plus (although I wish I can have more :D)

I run a blog part-time and enjoy a little income - not much, but it pays for my internet bill, and I am having fun with it.

I didn’t realize there was a stigma attached to part-time blogging, probably because I’m doing this all for fun. You are right, however — the extra income made by blogging is very nice.

I suppose I’ve never viewed blogging as a “serious” business venture because I’ve got a full-time job that pays very well.

I’ve never given this a try, but I think it’s about time I do.
