Why Your Blog Needs Its Own Domain Name

To be a successful blogger there are a number of things that have to happen. A successful blogger needs to blog about something that they are both passionate about and knowledgeable of. But loving your subject matter and knowing a great deal about it are not enough. There are a great many things that go into making a blog successful and most people focus on the marketing and execution of the daily updating of the content. But, without credibility and legitimacy, it doesn’t matter how the marketing and execution is performed because the blog will have a hard time sustaining itself after it is launched.

One of the best ways to gain a look of credibility is to have your blog hosted on its own domain name. There are examples of successful blogs that are hosted on free blogging platforms like Blogger and Wordpress, but they are few and far between. When a visitor comes to your website and sees that you are using a free host instead of your own domain name, one of the things that they may think is that you are not either an expert or a success in the field you are blogging about, or that maybe you are doing this part time and not taking it seriously. While domain names are relatively cheap to register, having one gives your blog the aura that it is credible because it is independent of free hosting sites.

Another benefit that having your blog hosted on its own domain will bring you is that it automatically lumps you in with the class of bloggers that can afford their own domain name and their own hosting. This adds a trait to your blog that many people overlook, legitimacy. When a visitor comes to a blog, one of the first things they subconsciously decide is, is whether it is a legitimate source of information or not. When they see that it is hosted on its own domain, they get a feeling that your blog is indeed legitimate. Sources of information that are not legitimate uses things like free blogging sites and other methods of low budget promotion. When major corporations develop a website that caters to their customers, they don’t do so on a free blogging host site.

Buying a domain name and paying for monthly hosting when you’re setting up your blog is one of the best investments you can make in your online project, especially when it is so reasonably affordable to do. When your blog has its own domain name, it appears to have a sense of credibility and legitimacy that some of the competition does not have. While there are a number of things you should do when planning and building your blog, don’t ignore something as simple as purchasing your own domain name when it can reap you such huge benefits.

Blogger will also allow you to purchase a domain name to rid yourself of the blogger.com.

I agree 100% with your post, as you can get a domain name for less than $10 and hosting for just a couple of dollars a month it is one of the best investments you can make online

I like Greg agree 100%. The cost of getting your own domain and hosting is minimal. Why provide all your hard work to a free blogging site that you don’t have 100% control over.
